FAQs
Settling Sessions
At MF Nurseries and Childcare our aim is to make the settling in procedure as smooth as possible for both you and your child. We like to start with a home visit or home phone call, which is usually carried out by the room leader This is an opportunity for you to share everything about your child such as their personality, family background, eating/ sleeping routines, likes and dislikes. Following on from this, we have two settling in sessions where your child can come in and have a play in their new room. At this time, you will come into the room to meet the team, spend some time playing before leaving your child. We follow the child’s lead and will shorten or add more sessions where we feel these are needed
Key Person
A keyperson is a main member of staff that creates a special bond with your child whilst they are in our care. The keyperson is responsible for ensuring your child feels secure, all their key needs are met and that they progress in their development. Your keyperson will be your first point of contact for discussions on your child’s wellbeing and will give you verbal updates most days, as well as the responsibility for updating you on how well your child is progressing on the i-connect app. You will meet with them twice a year to discuss their learning and development and plan next steps in their learning.
Medication
If your child is prescribed antibiotics, we ask that your child has them administered for at least 24 hours before they return to nursery. This is to ensure your child does not have an allergic reaction to the medication and they are well enough to return. We can then administer the medicine at nursery once a medication consent form is completed. If a child has a temperature whilst in our care, with your consent we can give emergency medication such as Calpol, whilst you make arrangements to get them collected.
First Aid & Managing Illness
Our staff are all paediatric qualified First Aiders. If an emergency arises, it may be necessary to arrange for medical help prior to contacting the parents. Whenever possible, parents will always be contacted first if a child needs medical attention. All accidents will be recorded on an Accident form which parents will be asked to sign at collection. It is very important that we can contact a Parent or Carer in case of emergency so do please ensure that you keep your contact details up to date. If your child arrives at nursery with an existing injury which has occurred away from nursery, you will be required to record this on an “existing injury form”. If you suspect that your child may be ill or has been in contact with an Infectious Disease, it is important that you speak to the Nursery Manager before bringing your child into nursery. We follow the department of Health guidelines for exclusion periods for illnesses.
Policies
Our Nursery Policies are available for all parents/carers to view. If you would like to see a copy, please ask a member of staff.
